Council Member Rosie Mendez of the New York City Council has introduced a bill to ban animal performances in New York City – a bill clearly propelled by animal extremist groups to target circuses. Among the ban's biggest supporters is NYCLASS, an animal group that tried to ban carriage horses in and around Central Park. If enacted, this bill will prevent tens of thousands of New York families from seeing the magic of the big top.
The NYC Council Committee on Health is holding a hearing on October 20th to discuss the proposed ban. If we want to save the circus, we need to act swiftly. Call and email the Health Committee Chair, Council Member Corey Johnson TODAY and demand he oppose Int. No. 1233. Tell him how you stand with the fans, performers, and animals of the circus.
