The next Board Meeting of the 22nd District Agricultural Association (DAA) for the San Diego County Fair will be held on November 8, 2011. One of the agenda items for this meeting is a discussion of Have Trunk Will Travel, and whether or not to have elephant rides at future San Diego County Fairs. Animal rights groups are expected to turn out in large numbers to speak out against elephant rides.
Have Trunk Will Travel has been a proud participant of the San Diego County Fair for 27 years, and is one of the leaders in the industry with regard to elephant care and education. The opportunity to experience elephants up close at a fair contributes greatly to educating the public about these magnificent animals and promotes the human-animal bond that is crucial to the survival of the species. Have Trunk Will Travel works closely with the International Elephant Foundation and the Elephant Managers Association to promote the protection and care of all Asian elephants.
Elephant ride supporters in the San Diego area are encouraged to attend the Board meeting if at all possible. Otherwise, letters and phone calls to the Board members would be very helpful.
