Fulton County Commissioners are considering a proposal to prohibit the use of elephant management tools within county limits, which would prohibit circuses that use elephants from visiting the county. This would include the city of Atlanta. The Commissioners will be taking up this proposal at their next meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at 10:00AM. Circus Fans who live in Georgia, especially the Fulton County area, are encouraged to attend the Nov. 3 meeting to voice their opposition to the animal proposal.
Please contact Ray Gronso, Southern Region VP, at gacircusfan@yahoo.com, Gary Payne, CFA Animal Welfare Committee Chair, at ptgcp@aol.com, or Mary Lou Kelly at Feld Entertainment at mkelly@feldinc.com for further information on how you can help, and for meeting location information.
If you cannot attend the County Commissioners meeting in person, please send an e-mail to the Commissioner’s office urging them to vote “no” on this matter. E-mails from Circus Fans that have attended circus performances in Atlanta are especially needed. A sample letter is below, but please use your own wording where possible. The list of Fulton County Commissioners, and their e-mail addresses, are also below. Thank you!
SAMPLE LETTER:
Dear ___________:
I am contacting you to express my strong opposition to a resolution to amend Article VI of Chapter 34 of the Fulton County Code of Ordinances, a bill to prohibit approved elephant management tools in circuses which means a ban on circuses traveling to Atlanta. If this bill passes, we will lose the family entertainment experience that circuses bring to Atlanta.
I know that I can rely on Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® to provide superior family entertainment and that elephants and other animals are an integral part of the circus experience. It is profoundly evident that the proper care and treatment of all the animals is of the highest standards.
I strongly urge you to oppose this legislation.
Sincerely,
